Can you spare a couple hours a month to support people with dementia?
Orange Health Service is recruiting volunteers for the Dementia Volunteer Program. You will be provide one on one support and assistance for older patients in hospital with dementia. Your role may include:
- spending time and talking to patients
- going for short walks
- reading or listening to music with patients
- providing support for patients during meal times
Requirements for the role
Dementia specific education and training will be provided before commencing. Training will be held at the hospital. No previous experience supporting people with dementia is required.
Have a minimum of 2 hours available per month for a shift to volunteer on the roster. You can nominate how often you would like to be on the roster, for example, once a week, once a fortnight, or once per month.

All volunteers need to be registered with the health service. There are some forms and checks that need to be completed before you start including vaccinations, police clearances and the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
Orientation and training is provided to all volunteers. Karin will speak to you about options to attend orientation and training.
Volunteers will be given a roster. You will be given a name badge and introduced to staff in the area you will be working.
