Vaping information - results from community responses

Result summary - what we heard from the survey:

Most people who filled in the survey while it was open were from the Orange area and were in the 15-19 year age group.

Most people said that they get information on vaping through social media, word of mouth, information flyers/infographics and government websites.

The community felt the best ways to share information and support are through passive advertising, short videos, radio & Spotify ads, and information sheets and infographics from health professionals.

A common theme throughout the responses was the need for more information on youth vaping, health impacts of vaping, legislation and consequences, general harms of vaping (including second-hand vaping), vaping in pregnancy, quitting support, and quit pathways.

Health Promotion plans for 2024 and beyond:

  • Link in with our local smoking cessation team with the plan to create and update resources to include vaping.
  • Share more updates on the Western NSW LHD Facebook and Instagram pages.
  • Explore Spotify ads and run a passive campaign which may include bus ads, coasters and posters at pubs and clubs.

  • Support Life Education to deliver their Reality Now program to 25 schools in Terms 1 and 2 2024.

Locally delivered webinars on vaping

In June 2022, the Health Promotion Team engaged Dr Lyndon Bauer and Taylor Ryan from Headspace to deliver the "Vapes and Your Children - why it's a big deal" webinar. Parents heard about the risks of vaping and were given tips on safe communication with children.

In May 2023, the Health Promotion team hosted the "Teens & Vaping Online Forum: what parents should know". Parents, carers and professionals who work with teens heard from experts on topics including latest research findings, signs your teen may be vaping, health concerns, laws and regulations in Australia, and practical tips on how to talk to your children about vaping.
