About the Sub-Regional Health Planning Committee

Sub Regional Health Planning Committees provide a forum for community and stakeholder collaboration in health service planning. The committee enables communities to have a strong voice in the planning, design and delivery of services and programs in partnership with Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD).

The Sub-Regional Health Planning Committees were established in 2023 to provide a platform to co-design solutions to challenges for health services into the future, and improve the health of the community.

The Committees are driven by principles of inclusivity and reflect the diversity and demographic of the sub-region through geographical networks; specific interests of the community, such as children and families; or health issues, like cancer.

There are currently two Sub-Regional Health Planning Committees

  • Central West - covering the communities of Dubbo, Narromine, Peak Hill, Trangie and Wellington.
  • Northern - covering the communities of Bourke, Brewarrina, Collarenebri, Goodooga, Lightning Ridge and Walgett.

Community priorities identified by the committees include: smoking and vaping, oral health services, ageing well in the community, mental health and drug and alcohol services, women and children's services, youth health, clinical trials and Aboriginal health and well-being.

Committee meetings are held quarterly in person with a virtual option also available.

Community Representatives are remunerated for their time in line with the NSW Health Consumer, Carer and Community Member Remuneration Guideline.

Functions of the Sub-Regional Health Planning Committee

  • Sharing information with the community on health care service delivery and directions

  • Providing advice to strategies to engage with all communities

  • Contributing to improving health literacy

  • Identifying opportunities for collaboration

  • Representing the views of local communities

Applying to be a Community Representative

We are seeking community representatives to join the Sub-Regional Health Planning Committees in 2024.

Community Representatives should have good networks and connections with various groups within their community and are able to provide a broad and representative community perspective on matters discussed at meetings.

Community Representatives have good communication skills and are willing to participate in meeting discussions and work in collaboration with WNSWLHD on future solutions.

Community Representatives should either live in or have strong connections with the town they are representing and be willing to seek community feedback on local issues and priorities as needed. The Representative will also share approved information from WNSWLHD with the community.

We currently have vacancies for community representatives from the areas of Brewarrina, Goodooga, Collarenebri, Narromine and Peak Hill.

If you live in the catchment area for any of the towns in the Sub-Regional Health Planning Committees, you are welcome to apply and we will be in touch to discuss other opportunities as they arise.
