What is the Healthy Warrumbungles Project?

This project is a type of place-based planning and is being led by the Western NSW Local Health District. The aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of people in the Warrumbungle Local Government Area – this includes the towns of Baradine, Binnaway, Coolah, Coonabarabran, Dunedoo and Mendooran.

Partnering with key organisations such as the Warrumbungle Shire Council, Western NSW Primary Health Network, NSW Ambulance and Rural Doctors Network we will work with service providers and communities to prioritise and address long-standing, complex and interconnected health and social issues.

How can I get involved?

Goals of the Project

  • Strengthen collaboration between service providers and the community, recognising that rural towns are stronger when they work together.
  • Identify and prioritise key health and wellbeing issues, ensuring solutions are sustainable and informed by communities.
  • Develop a plan for all stakeholders.
  • Consult with health and social service providers, key groups and individuals to gain a good understanding of the issues impacting health and wellbeing, as well as potential solutions.
  • Seek input from all interested community members via a community survey, ‘pop up’ street stalls and focus groups.
  • Provide feedback to those we have heard from, to ensure we’ve accurately captured the sentiments of the community and stakeholders.
  • Gather key population, health and social data to help inform several advisory groups, which will be guided by subject matter experts. They’ll focus on different, but connected, elements of health and wellbeing, prioritising issues and developing evidence-based solutions.
  • Work with partner organisations and other key stakeholders to develop a plan of action and implement it together.
