Project update: construction commenced with some short-term road changes

Building of the Canowindra HealthOne started on 10 June 2025 with upgrading roads and infrastructure around the Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

There will be short-term road changes for approximately one month.

The road closures will affect access to some parts of the hospital including the physiotherapy rehabilitation gym.

The map below shows the short-term road changes and car parking options:

  • The road to use (marked with green arrows on the map) is to the right of the hospital, on the Hospital Lane side. This road will become a two-way street during the early works.
  • Parking for the physiotherapy rehabilitation service will be at the back of the hospital.

The map also shows road closures:

  • The side road going behind the hospital (marked by red and white Xs on the map) is closed, fenced at both ends and marked with signs.
  • The one-way roads (marked with yellow lines on the map) are closed.

Please drive with care as these roads are narrow. We apologise for any trouble the changes may cause and thank you for your support during the project.

Project Overview

The NSW Government is investing $8.3 million to deliver a brand new, purpose-built HealthOne facility at Canowindra, to significantly enhance community access to integrated healthcare services.

Western NSW Local Health District is partnering with NSW Public Works to deliver the facility.

The HealthOne will host healthcare providers including GPs and community healthcare services, at the existing hospital site.

Along with enhancing access to multidisciplinary care, the HealthOne will improve continuity of care as patients move more seamlessly between hospital, primary and community settings.

The HealthOne will be developed with scope for further expansion, to help ensure and maintain high-quality and sustainable healthcare services now and into the future.

Ways we have heard from the community

Western NSW local Health District is committed to working closely with staff, clinicians, patients, stakeholder groups and the community to ensure the HealthOne delivers the best possible outcomes.

A range of consultation activities have been undertaken throughout the project's development, and the feedback provided has helped to inform the HealthOne's location, planning and design.

Some of the ways we have heard from the community include:

  • Pop up information sessions in the community.

  • Community group and stakeholder briefings.

  • Talking with staff, service providers and local GPs.

  • Online surveys.

During the planning phase we sought feedback on the HealthOne location, services and the project's Review of Environmental Factors (REF) documents and designs. Thank you to everyone who shared their ideas.
