Centenary Events Program

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Bloomfield and to mark the history and changes over the years we are developing a program of events to be held in 2025. This will include tours, tree planting and concerts. A major exhibition will be opened in November by Orange Regional Museum. More information about these events will be shared when available and volunteer opportunities will be available.

Bloomfield Hospital was established in 1925 as a mental health facility.

Over the years there has been changes to the buildings and operation of the campus and the way we provide mental health treatment and care.

Today, Bloomfield offers specialist mental health, drug and alcohol treatment and care through hospital and community services for all ages.

We recognise the lived and living experience of patients, consumers, carers, families and kin of people and staff who have an experience of accessing or providing treatment and care at Bloomfield Hospital. Every person and every story has contributed to the history and journey of mental health care.

As part of the Centenary Event Program for 2025, volunteers will lead historical tours of Bloomfield Campus. The Tour Guides will lead small group tours of the Bloomfield Campus, sharing information about the history of the campus including buildings of State heritage significance.

Join the Bloomfield Hospital Centenary Exhibition Film

This year marks 100 years since Bloomfield Hospital first opened its doors. Orange Regional Museum is marking the centenary with a major exhibition celebrating Bloomfield’s history and its place in the community.

As part of the exhibition, we are creating a short 10-minute film with voices from Bloomfield today.

We’d love to hear from you if you’re part of Bloomfield in one of these ways:

  1. Bloomfield staff – across a range of departments or roles, helping to show the breadth of work across the hospital.
  2. Bloomfield Peer Workers – sharing perspectives from your professional role supporting consumers.
  3. Recent consumers, families or carers – people who have accessed Bloomfield services in the past 5 years and are willing to share their experiences.

We’re aiming for a mix of participants in each category. Consumers, families and carers will be paid for their time in line with Western NSW LHD guidelines. The guidelines can be found on the right, along with a factsheet - Remuneration Factsheet for consumers, carers and community members

What will the filming involve?

  • A relaxed filmed conversation on site at Bloomfield or another suitable location between 7–10 October 2025.
  • About 30–60 minutes of your time.
  • A short briefing beforehand to make sure you are comfortable and prepared.
  • All participants will be invited to take part in a Safe Story session, facilitated through Western NSW Local Health District, to help you tell your story in a way that feels safe and supported.
  • All participants will be asked to sign a simple “permission to publish” form so we can include your interview in a film to be screened as part of the exhibition film and held within the Orange Regional Museum. Consent to share a patient story.
